Animal Welfare Standard

Welfcert standards were developed for each particular animal species and include the differences between different productive systems.

Specialists in animal welfare, veterinarians, scholars, producers, associations, international experts, and others, took part in drawing up the schemes.

The result is a standard that circumscribes all globally recognized practices on animal welfare in any production system that considers welfare as a focal point of intensive production, is economically viable, and aligns with Latin American production systems.

The standard includes 9 assessment areas:

Management
Housing
Administration
Direct Parameters
Feed
Facilities
Health
Records
Training

Three types of criteria are evaluated:

Critical Criteria:

Mandatory requirements under immediate reprobation if failure is detected during an audit. They denote negligence or malice, whether intentional or not, in the animal’s welfare.

Regulatory Criteria:

Requirements described in national legislation in Decrees Nº28-29-30, which must be in full compliance.

Criterios WELFCERT:

Requirements that show the implementation of voluntary and not legally required practices that seek to ensure animal welfare and constitute a differentiating element over other companies.

The percentage of the compliance of these three criteria determines the final classification of the company.

EACH PRODUCT CATEGORY HAS ITS OWN CRITERIA AND REQUIREMENTS:
